Periodontal Disease

“Perio” means around, and “dontal” refers to teeth. Periodontal disease is a bacterial infection that attacks the supporting structures of the tooth, which include gums, periodontal ligaments and alveolar bones and is caused by an initial accumulation of plaque at the gingiva.

The first sign of a periodontal disease is bleeding gums when brushing or flossing your teeth. Although a great number of patients’ don´t give much attention to these signs, it is important to treat the periodontal diseases as soon as they appear, as they may otherwise spread and destroy structures that support your teeth in your jawbone.

Periodontal diseases and caries are amongst the most common diseases of humankind and can be easily and painless treated.
